Irish Wolfhounds are amazing dogs, but alas, not for everyone. Their great size and strength, one of the main things that attracts people to the breed, can also be one of the greatest drawbacks to having one. They can clear a table with one happy wag of a tail, and can lovingly knock a full grown adult to ground with a playful nudge of their giant heads. Because of this, having an Irish Wolfhound is a great responsibility, like having any pet, multiplied.

Irish Wolfhounds have huge hearts, but that huge heart comes with a price. The price of an extremely short lifespan. If you remember having a family dog that grew up with you, lovingly adoring you into your teens, it was not an Irish Wolfhound. They say the average life span is 6-8 years old, however it seems as though they die very young, or live until 8-10 years old. Still not long enough to love a toddler into their teens.

After having a gentle giant like this, would I have a different breed? As a companion for my hounds, definately <smiles>

Thank you for coming to my website, and welcome to my Summerland of Hounds.
